Jaakko Erikkilä

Prof. Dr. Jaakko Erikkilä

Jaakko Erkkilä is professor of music therapy at the department of music at the University of Jyväskylä (UJy). He has a qualification of psychotherapist and he is trained as a music therapist from Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland) and UJy. He gained doctorate in music therapy in 1997 from the UJy.

Jaakko Erkkilä has worked as a music therapist with several client groups including the fields of psychiatry (both adolescents and adults), children with neurological disorders and learning disabilities as well as handicap people from various subcategories. He has worked as the head of music therapy master's program at UJy since 1997, and he is the head of the studies of the music therapy training at Eino Roiha Institute (Jyväskylä, Finland). He is also a PhD supervisor at UJy. Professor Erkkilä is the Vice-President of the European Music Therapy Confederation (EMTC).
 
Professor Erkkilä has published 4 monographs and edited several books. He has published about 100 articles. His main research interests are psychodynamic music psychotherapy and improvisation in music therapy.
